Vancouver’s Electrical Transformers Come to Life
I make a point of noticing the unseen machines that dot our everyday landscape. When I am walking through Chinatown and Downtown Vancouver, electrical transformers which sit quietly perched on power poles, often unnoticed, call to me. They come to life in my imagination.
The theme of this series is Vancouver’s Electrical Transformers. It is a playful study of the urban landscape of the many kinds of electrical transformers, each with their own personality. In this series I have drawn on their individuality and anthropomorphize their features. I create transformers that are in love, royal transformers adorned with crowns, and other transformers hanging out with friends. Other pieces are photographic in nature and document electrical transformers in their urban downtown habitat.
